| Abstract : |
| Inclusive education is a social need that reflects the philosophy of equity and justice that should be available to students with special needs. The philosophy of equal justice for all is a universal phenomenon and is now gaining ground. A theoretical framework for inclusive schooling takes its roots from the theories of Vygotsky that a) Disability is a socio-cultural developmental phenomenon, and b) Disability consists of ‘primary disability’ (organic impairment) and the ‘secondary’disability (distortions of higher psychological functions due to social factors). A model for preparing teachers for inclusive schooling is adopted for a practical walk through the process of inclusive schooling. It is concluded that the process of change will ultimately result in all round development as the strengthening of the weakest links keeps the social structures strong. |
